What are the benefits in having a routine such as this one?

In this example, the children clearly know where to sit when they remove their shoes, where their shoes belong, and where to find their shoes when it is time to go outside.  This helps to build trust and autonomy because children know what to expect and can feel good about being able to meet the expectations and be responsible for their things. This also helps the transition into the house happen smoothly.

How does the provider support self-regulation with this routine?

She has established a routine that all the children can participate in as they come into the house.  She uses reminders to guide children to the expectation.  She responds calmly when a child is frustrated and shows empathy for how difficult he is finding it to remove his shoes.  She uses words and guides his hands so that he can do it himself.
