How does the provider support the children’s understanding of emotions?

She asks the children to think about how the mama duck in the song would feel if the little ducks all went away and then how she would feel when they came back, which allows the children to draw on their own experiences and prompts them to practice thinking about how someone else might feel.  She also asks them to demonstrate what angry feelings might look and sound like, giving them the opportunity to explore this during a safe experience.

One child is attending to the activity and participating more directly than another child.  How is the provider facilitating participation of both children?

The provider asks both children to respond with ideas and respects the ways in which they are moving during the activity by allowing them freedom to move around.  She repeats the ideas each child has shared.
