What kinds of learning concepts did the provider bring in to the painting activity?
The provider brings in the math concept of counting. She also brings in color vocabulary. The provider also talks about making a mistake and when she notices her handprint is missing the thumb and models a way to respond to a mistake.
How does the provider support learning the math concept of counting and one-to-one correspondence in the painting activity?
The provider models counting several times. She says that she left her thumb off the handprint she has made and then points to and counts the fingers in the print to indicate that this is how she knows. She comments to the child putting paint on her own hand that she has “three more fingers to go” and then points and counts out loud the three handprints on the paper. She connects this concept of three to the child being three years old.
