Yet again, another great module. In Chicago, where the weather is often inclement, I see and hear excuses for the children not being taken outdoors. Although I understand the challenges involved in taking multiple aged groups of children outdoors (particularly, if not appropriately staffed), there is still no excuse or substitute for outdoor play. It is a licensing and EHS/HS requirement to take children outdoors for daily play/learning and it still does not happen as often as it should. If providers could understand how outdoor activities provide learning in all domains as well as the health and social /emotional benefits for the same, I think the excuses for not doing it would be reduced. The links provided in the module offer a variety of examples of outdoor environments, activities and storage for the outdoors. As always, my plan it to encourage my group of fcc providers to visit the townsquare site and GROW!
