I work in early head start and head start fcc programs. The related literature states that environments should offer developmentally and age appropriate items/activities, in a home setting, but the trend is to make homes into mini centers. I am seeing more and more mini centers and less of the home. I love the example of both, developmentally /age appropriate items and the home feeling in the fcc home highlighted in the photos. It is clean, welcoming and day care items and feel don’t overwhelm the sense of home. When I had a fcc, my husband hated the fact that our home was totally converted. After looking at the photos, I realize that I did not have to rob my family of our home in order to offer the children in my care an awesome space for growing, learning and developing friendships. As the saying goes, “if I knew then what I know now…”
