I have definitely come into contact with families who have had different concerns or ways of doing things than me. I definitely hear them out and change whatever needs to be changed in order to fit their needs and the way they are being raised by their family. It sometimes is hard, but I try to conform the best I can to their needs. For example, one child’s mom who is a pediatrician, was concerned about her son’s weight because he was below the average weight for his age. To me, he looked healthy and fine, his appetite was pretty normal except he didn’t eat many fruits or vegetables. She wanted us to get him to eat more and to journal everything that went into his body. It was uncomfortable to get him to eat more when he was saying he was full, but eventually we came up with a strategy and it all worked out. I have had the opposite happen too where a child was overweight and the parents wanted us to limit the child’s eating.
