TO keep the layout fresh I try to rearrange furniture and supplies including toys and play material every month or two. When I work on a theme with the kids I often modify the play materials so that I stock the environment with items that invite inquiry and develop skills. This might include adding dinosaurs to the sand table for a dinosaur theme or keeping colored leaves on a plastic platter along with magnifying glasses for a fall theme. I also change wall materials to reflect a season or theme.
I have a separate room where I store my crafts , toys and equipment. My circle time board and blocks are in a corner of my living room not used by my family. Keeping lesson plans and teaching materials in plastic bins allows me to use my kitchen on an as needed basis without changing my existing layout or counter items.
