I believe understanding culture is important. In the short time that I have been in business I have not had an incident that was awkward for myself or a parent/family. However, In my policy I make sure parents understand that everything I do is for the betterment of the child. I make sure doing the initial visit the parent tells me things I don’t know about their child so that we can implement thing as close as possible to what they are accustomed to at home. After all, my home daycare is a home away from home. Without the parent informing me, I did have a child who would sleep comfortable while I held her, but, when I layed her down, she woke up immediately. I discovered that if I layed down too, she would go back to sleep. So I didn’t have an issue of needing to hold the child in order for her to sleep. Children are adaptable over time. If an provider is not able to totally accommodate the parents wishes, things usually work out.
