I would say that I have learned that it’s ok to view my home as a home and not a center. I tend to think that my home needs to reflect the learning that takes place by having it resemble a center. It is true that my clients chose a day care home over a center so that it would be more welcoming and comfortable for their children. My set up enables children to be independent and choose what they wish to work and play with but I do have restrictions on where on the house they can go. This is for both safety reasons as well as family privacy.
Thank you for making me feel better about not looking exactly like a center. My next change will be to incorporate more pillows and small stuffed chairs so the children can get away and have some quiet time with a book or toy.
