This module was especially helpful in reminding me of the importance of the materials and activities we choose for our programs, as well as the layout of our spaces and the integration of home and work space. The useful ideas in rotating out materials helps FCC providers like myself to see how easily the space can be transformed for the sake of the children’s interest. Using DAP guidelines, spaces can be safe, developmentally appropriate, and also culturally aware when it comes to the children that you serve in your program. Using the DAP principles, materials and spaces are laid out that reflect the children’s needs and interests, and also provide the providers with opportunities to expand and reorganize the program to meet the needs of the children and their parents.
