This module so far has been very informative. It is interesting how there is a focus and reiteration of “many right ways”, when Family Child Care Providers are being told different things by different agencies/entities. It only makes sense for the Family Child Care Home to have a home-like atmosphere with the incorporation of Child Care, however, some licensing and accrediting agency look for and request that the Family Child Care Home is more center-like.

My program space is split. The center area that is dedicated to child care is more center like with clearly defined play areas for the children to explore and learn. While the other areas of my home are still home-like, so the children get to experience both. I believe that as long as the space is designed to promote choice, independence and creative thinking and learning, both styles work just fine.
