Family child care professionals may work with families who need their support in the process of weaning their baby from breastfeeding. The American of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for one year, though there is no right or wrong time to wean a baby. When to wean a baby and how it is done is a mother’s choice.  Experts agree it is beneficial for both baby and mother when the weaning process is gradual. Providers can be supportive in the process by offering options for where a mother can breastfeed her baby before she goes off to work, at her lunch break or when she arrives to pick up her baby at the end of the day.
